Frequently asked questions

Having trouble? Here you'll find answers to our most common questions and issues. If you can't find the solution you are looking for, feel free to get in touch with us directly and we will be glad to help you with your query.

The most common reasons for a cistern filling slowly are:
  • Build-up of debris or scale inside the water system (including the fill valve itself) impeding the flow of the water.
  • The failure of the fill valve which has been in use for a long period of time (usually seven years of more), when working parts may start to wear out.
  • Water pressure has/is reduced - possible mains supply reduction/blockage elsewhere.
Firstly, we recommend flushing debris and scale from the valve and system to see if this resolves the problem. If the issue persists, the next step is to repair the fill valve or replace it. Our Airgap 6000 valve is compatible with virtually every cistern.
Water constantly running or dribbling down the toilet is a common problem, sometimes called "leaky loo". This has the potential to waste up to 140 litres of water every single week, so it is an important issue to fix.
  • Check your fill valve - Look inside the cistern and check whether water is rising so high that it is draining down the overflow pipe. If the answer is yes, try cleaning and servicing your fill valve. If this doesn't work, replacing the fill valve should resolve the issue.
  • Check flush valve - The rubber seal in the valve seals water into the cistern. If it becomes damaged or dirty, water can begin to dribble into the toilet bowl. Replacing the seal is a simple job that often resolves this problem. If replacing the seal does not solve the issue, a replacement may be needed.
The functionality of a delayed fill valve saves up to a litre of water per flush by ensuring the cistern does not start to refill until the flush function is finished. This has no impact on the flushing quality.
The delayed version of our Airgap valve is only suitable for toilet cisterns rather than a header water tank in a loft. Our non-delay version is perfectly suitable for this application.
