Training the Next Generation of Installers on Concealed Cisterns

Fluidmaster concealed cistern installation training with local college

The Fluidmaster UK team recently spent two days at the Hereford campus of Herefordshire, Ludlow and North Shropshire College, working with 50 Plumbing Level 2 students and giving them hands-on experience with concealed cistern installation training.

These sessions build on our previous visits to the college, where students were introduced to fill and flush valves. This time, we took things a step further, giving a new group of students the opportunity to work with a concealed system for the first time.

For many of the students, this was their first experience installing a concealed cistern. While theory is important, real confidence comes from hands-on learning, especially with systems they’re increasingly likely to encounter on site. Installing a concealed system themselves gave students a clear understanding of how everything fits together, highlighted the key differences from more traditional setups, and helped build confidence early.

Students worked in small groups, with each session lasting around two and a half hours. During this time, they installed the Fluidmaster T06, supported by our engineering and R&D team. The focus wasn’t just on completing the install, but on sharing practical tips that make a real difference on site – the kind of detail you only pick up through experience. From positioning within the frame to avoiding common pitfalls, the aim was to make installation feel straightforward and repeatable, rather than unfamiliar or overly complex.

Using the T06 allowed students to get to grips with a modern concealed solution in a realistic setting. It wasn’t a perfect demo environment, but something much closer to what they’ll encounter day to day once they’re on site.

Sessions like these are about more than just product training. They help students build confidence, understand how systems work in practice, and feel better prepared when they step onto site for the first time. As concealed installations become more common, that early exposure can make a real difference.

It was great to see how quickly students got stuck in and grew in confidence over the sessions. We look forward to continuing our work with colleges like Herefordshire, Ludlow and North Shropshire College, supporting the next generation of installers and building on sessions like this.
